I had a questioned posed to me in Anatomy and Physiology class this week that
I just can’t ‘let go.’ I am giving this some serious thought.
Our teacher, someone that I respect and admire, asked “You energy workers in
the class. Pretend I am a scientist (she’s an energy worker herself, so she’s
playing ‘Devil’s Advocate.’) Pretend I’m a scientist and I don’t know anything
about energy work. How can you tell me that energy works to heal the body? What
PART of the body does the energy help? How do you connect?”
Going around the room, students gave many answers “Energy affects the
connective tissue. It connects to cells. It connects to water. It connects to
blood.” I raised my hand and offered “It’s a SOUL connection, and the energy
just flows.”
The teacher said, “Remember, I’m a scientist. That makes no sense to
me.” She left the question with us…how DOES energy affect the physical body?
Where is that interface?
Let me explain what I do.
Before I even begin an energy session, my client and I talk about their
intent. What would they like to receive from this session? What would
they like the energy to do for them? Intent is a very powerful thing, and when
both practitioner and client hold the same intent, the energy and healing can be
much more powerful.
Ok, so now I have intent, and the energy of that intent is entered into our
session. Intent is a key player. Can a scientist say that intent doesn’t matter?
That I really don’t know. Energy workers know that intent is EVERYTHING.
Thinking about mainstream medical doctors, and how they prescribe medicines for
particular ailments, they MUST know that ‘I am prescribing this specific drug
for this specific condition because the drug will act in such a way as to defeat
this ailment.’ That sounds like intent to me. Or a surgeon who preps for surgery
“We’ll cut you open, go in and replace your knee, and come right back out. Then
your leg will heal and you will be able to walk up and down stairs again.” That
also sounds like intent. Intent is a plan of action---and it’s directional
energy flow.
Intent for an energy session can be anything. ANYTHING. The client can set an
intent for physical healing, for emotional healing, and/or for spiritual
healing. Energy works on ALL levels. No stitches required afterwards!
So with intent set, as a Reiki Master I connect with something much bigger
than me, and then I connect with my client. I am a channel for the healing
energy. It comes from Source and flows through me to my client. I can feel in my
hands, feet, and head when this energy flows.
Reiki practitioners understand that the body is a whole unit, and ‘issues’
(or dis-ease) arise when there is an imbalance in the body‘s energy flow.
Therefore, every session I have, I balance energies in the entire body. I always
start at the head and work my way down to the feet, connecting with every cell
from head to toe. When a client has an intent of “I’m having issues with my
kidneys. I want healing to go to my kidneys,” I hold the same intent and yes, I
will direct energy to their kidneys. I will even spend more time in that area,
but I DO treat the entire body.
Alright, but that doesn’t answer the question of where exactly does the
energy interface with the body?
I believe energy connects with energy. I believe every cell in a body holds
energy. Even Einstein said this. Energies vibrate at different frequencies, and
through my hands I can feel imbalances/differences in vibration in different
areas of the body. When I feel a ‘difference,’ I understand that this is an area
that would very much benefit from Reiki energy.
I believe it was day 2 of Anatomy and Physiology class when my teacher stated
“The cell is the smallest living thing. Science knows this. When a bunch of
cells get together that want to do the same thing, they form a tissue. Science
knows this. When a group of tissues get together with similar function, they
create an organ. Science knows this.” Taking this one step further, what she
said was groups of cells can DECIDE to work together for a specific outcome.
That’s why heart cells are different from liver cells…..which are different from
nerve cells…which are different from bone cells…you get the idea. So a group of
cells working together KNOW what their function is (because they do their job
when the conditions are right). They know what they need to do, and what they
NEED in order to remain in a state of homeostasis where all the cells are happy
and healthy. I postulate that since these cells are working together for a
desired outcome, and since they know what they need to be healthy, they have
consciousness. The organs know what they are and what they need to do.
I have said, and I have heard other people say as well “my stomach doesn’t
like when I eat spicy food.” Or “My heart told me THIS was the puppy for me.”
And also “my gut tells me that this is a bad idea.” We CAN listen to our own
organs. How many of us actually pay attention when our bodies speak to us?
Through INTENT, energetically it is possible to connect healing energy to the
consciousness of any organ--similar to the way science can direct a radiation
beam into a tumor (but without all the nasty side effects!) An added bonus is
that Reiki energy treats and benefits the entire body, looking to rebalance
energies to get to the cause of the ‘problem,’ instead of just treating a
symptom.
Reiki healing energy connects to the energy of your body. It connects to the
energy of each your cells and organs. It connects to the vibrations of your
thoughts and emotions. Healing energy goes exactly where it needs to go in order
to assist your body with finding balance. And that balance revolves around LOVE.
Can science quantify LOVE? Is there a machine to measure LOVE? Does it make a
specific sine wave pattern when hooked up to oscilloscopes? Does it have mass?
Can it be weighed or measured in any way? Can it be photographed? Since there is
no machine to measure LOVE, does that mean that science doesn’t recognize it as
an important part of healing and health?
NO. Science ABSOLUTELY knows the power of love and its importance in our well
being, growth, and health. When I gave birth to my first child, the nurses
educated me on a syndrome called “Failure to Thrive.” And I wondered ‘who on
earth wouldn’t love and cuddle their baby? Isn’t that just the most natural
thing EVER?’
So to the scientists out there who have read through this, thank you for
making it this far. I leave you with my thoughts on Energy work being the power
of LOVE that nurtures each and every vibration in the body and soul of YOU (if
you so choose it). Love won’t be forced upon you if you decide it’s not right
for you.
I just can’t ‘let go.’ I am giving this some serious thought.
